Atlantic Canada is home to more than 20 species of marine mammals including whales, dolphins, porpoises, and seals. Each year there are dozens of cases reported of these majestic marine animals getting tangled in fishing gear or becoming stranded on a beach. When these unfortunate incidents occur it becomes a life and death situation and time is of the essence.
Whale Rescue is a half-hour documentary that follows the Halifax-based Marine Animal Response Society (MARS) as they respond to marine mammal emergencies and work against the clock to protect and preserve the life of a marine mammal. Each situation is different and it may involve returning a stranded porpoise to the ocean or untangling a whale from fishing nets.
